Incredible history is around every corner in Samoa and Saleaula Lava Field is no exception. Molten lava from the 1905-1911 Mt Matavanu eruption buried 5 villages. The original three-story church was also submerged by magna, leaving only the top floor, however the dark rock formations cannot stop the blooming of life as various plants can be seen breaking through the cracks in the rock formations.
There is also a virgin grave which is the grave of a girl that supposedly was so pure, the lava flowed around the grave leaving it untouched.
